Media Korean: An Online Multimedia Open Educational Resource (OER) for Advanced Korean

This project developed an online multimedia Open Educational Resource (OER) repository for advanced Korean with the goal of promoting critical media literacy through authentic Korean-language materials. The project was initiated to address the lack of commercially available textbooks for fourth-year Korean and above, which requires instructors to develop and update instructional materials every year. The repository was designed to help students critically analyze diverse Korean media, including news articles, opinion pieces, dramas, documentaries, advertisements, and social media, while deepening their understanding of contemporary Korean society and developing digital literacy through interactive online activities. The instructional materials were developed using the Multiliteracies Framework (Allen & Paesani, 2010), which guides students through situated practice, overt instruction, critical framing, and transformed practice.
