LRC Spaces

The LRC has a number of specialized spaces available: smart classrooms, distance learning rooms, a traditional computer lab, a dedicated process-oriented writing lab, and upcoming podcasting and virtual reality studios. Members of the Columbia language community are welcome to reserve these spaces for special projects, events, or as collaboration spaces with other disciplines and departments. Please email [email protected] with inquiries.

Distance Learning Classrooms

The LRC maintains five Distance Learning Classrooms for supporting the Shared Course Initiative, a collaborative project between Columbia, Cornell, and Yale, to share teaching resources for less commonly taught languages.

Process-Oriented Writing Lab

This space is dedicated to supporting language learners in their writing process without the use of digital tools, including AI. Learners are encouraged to physically move through different areas of the lab as they brainstorm, draft, and revise their work.

Smart Classrooms

The LRC supports three smart classrooms located at 253IAB, 254IAB, and 255IAB. each is equipped with an Apple Mac Mini Computer, multi-standard DVD player, video/audio conference capabilities, and 64″ projection whiteboards by Smart Technologies, which allow instructors to interact with the content displayed on the screen.
