The LRC offers numerous opportunities for ongoing professional development to the language lecturer community of Columbia. We provide support in several key areas:
AI Literacy and Engagement
The Language Resource Center AI Working Group meets regularly to discuss and analyze ongoing developments in gen-AI tools and how they shape our work as Columbia language faculty. We discuss critical frameworks for evaluating AI applications, policies regarding use and implementation of AI in language learning, how to enrich language classes with AI, and how AI impacts the major skills of language use.
Pedagogy and Curriculum Development
We regularly convene collaborative workshops to foster cross-pollination of ideas and feedback across all language programs, at both the classroom and curricular level. In addition to standalone events, we facilitate sustained series that focus on in-depth ideation and innovation within specific themes, such as the interface of language learning and climate literacy.
Educational Technology
These workshops explore thoughtful and creative applications of educational technology in the language classroom. Each session focuses on a salient aspect of instruction and explores how it can be enhanced or transformed through the use of specific technologies.
