This website is a curated repository of short video clips drawn from Italian films, created to support language learning at the Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Currently organized into fourteen film units, the site pairs clips with a full transcription and a set of pre- and post-viewing activities designed to deepen both linguistic and cultural understanding.
Grounded in dual-coding theory and research on multimodal input, the project resorts to film as a uniquely rich pedagogical resource: scenes combine language, image, and sound to situate grammar and vocabulary within authentic, often memorable contexts. The same clip can be utilized to serve multiple pedagogical purposes—from first exposure to closer linguistic analysis. Units may be used for guided classroom discussion or assigned as independent work, and many connect to full-length films students could watch over the course of a term.
Beyond vocabulary building, the activities are designed to cultivate transcultural and translingual competence, inviting students to engage with Italian cinema as a living archive of the country's history, society, and everyday life.
