Addressing Diversity, Intersectionality, and Social Justice in the Polish-Language Classroom

This project reviews images and vocabulary of diversity in five currently available Polish-language textbooks, with an eye to highlighting and elucidating underlying operative assumptions and ideologies about race, gender, class, ethnicity, and disability in them. In light of these findings, the project focuses on the logistic, ethical, and cultural challenges US-based Polish-language instructors face in introducing more inclusive and equitable vocabularies into their classrooms. Finally, the presenters speculate as to the potential role LCTLs such as Polish might play in contributing to the global conversation about diversity and intersectionality.
