Welcome to the Columbia Spanish Language Program in the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures! If you are interested in the diverse cultures, literatures, traditions, and present-day topics of the Spanish-speaking world, this is the place to start!

We offer a four-semester sequence of elementary and intermediate-level courses, comprehensive courses, Spanish for Heritage Speakers, Spanish for the Health Professions, and Spanish on topics of climate discourse.

After you complete our intermediate-level courses, our Advanced Spanish through Content (Spanish UN3300) classes focus on a range of topics such as Gay Identities in Spain, Salsa, Afro-Latinx Cultural Stories, Spanish Art, Immigration and Education, Bilingual Identities, and many others. Spanish 3300 counts toward a concentration, minor, or major in Hispanic Studies.

All undergraduate and graduate students must take one of the online placement tests available on this page.
